What are the risk factors of breast cancer?
This week's question was from Alice in Fresno: What are the risk factors of breast cancer?
Let's start by qualifying the role of risk factors for breast cancer. Women can develop breast cancer without prior risk factors, and some women with risk factors never develop breast cancer during their lifetime. That being said, some of the risk factors are increasing age, personal history of breast cancer, family history of breast cancer, radiation exposure, obesity, early menstruation, late menopause, alcohol consumption, and post menopausal hormone therapy. You should talk to your doctor to set up a proactive plan for breast cancer screening.
